2015 Sachem Award

High Honors

The Sachem Award is the highest honor one can receive in Indiana, and has also been awarded to Holocaust survivor Eva Mozes Kor, basketball coach Carl Erskine, and businessman Reginald O. Jones

Presentation

During his address during the presentation to Brown’s family, then-governor Mike Pence said that Amos Brown “pricked the conscience of a nation”

Meaning

The name Sachem comes from the Algonquin term given to leaders who exhibit wisdom and sound judgement
